The miserable, moping Moaning Myrtle may return in book six. She played an important role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (book 2), and author J.K. Rowling has implied Chamber of Secrets and Half-Blood Prince are somehow related. Voldemort's basilisk killed Myrtle in a bathroom when they were in school together.

J.K. Rowling: Oh yes, I love Myrtle, I couldn't shut her out for long.
I find Moaning Myrtle is the saddest character in your books, inspiring a mixture of revulsion and pity. Does she play any further part?
J.K. Rowling: You do see her again. Don't you like her? I know she's a bit revolting, but that's why I'm so fond of her.
